Is Pepper new?
Yes! I was brought to the NMSU-Las Cruces campus for all undergraduate students starting Fall 2026!
How often will Pepper text you?
About twice a month just to check in with you!
Should you text back?
Yes! Use Pepper and ask questions anytime! 24/7/365*
Will anyone see what I am texting Pepper?
Yes, if Pepper feels you need a little extra support, or if Pepper doesn't understand your question, Pepper will let our professional staff know. Our staff will review your conversation and reach out directly to you to recommend resources needed or next steps.

* Always call 911 in an emergency situation. While Pepper is always there to help support your academic success, Pepper cannot respond to emergency situations. NMSU has representatives assisting Pepper with questions that it cannot answer, although these messages are not able to be monitored 24/7.

The Origin of Pepper

Pepper was grown at New Mexico State University, inspired by the pioneering spirit of Dr. Fabián García and the rich legacy of the Chile Pepper Institute. Just as Dr. García transformed agriculture through innovation and access to knowledge, Pepper was created to carry that same mission forward in a modern form.

Rooted in NMSU’s history and shaped by its commitment to student success, Pepper is a texting chatbot designed to meet you where you are! Drawing from the university’s resources, services, and institutional knowledge, Pepper provides timely information, guidance, and support to help students navigate campus life, stay informed, and remain on track academically. Blending tradition with technology, Pepper represents NMSU’s belief that meaningful connection drives retention. From the fields of New Mexico to the palms of students’ hands, Pepper is here to support Aggies every step of the way!

 

How to connect with Pepper

Pepper will reach out to you and will send you an initial message at the beginning of the semester. Pepper will welcome you to campus and offer support through your academic journey. When Pepper reaches out, we encourage you to save him in your contacts so you can connect with him at any time!
